Credit Acceleration and Recovery Program

White’s Residential & Family Services is pleased to announce a change made to our academic program to better meet the educational needs of students in care and placing agency goals. To provide greater flexibility, individualized care, more home visits, and reduce length of stay, White’s has made innovative changes to the existing traditional residential school program. Our current educational success here at White’s across all our programs has proven our commitment to helping students reach their highest potential.

We are still an accredited public school through the Indiana Department of Education, staffed with licensed teachers. But now, we offer a new on-line Credit Acceleration/Recovery Program (CA/RP) that lets students enroll at any time throughout the calendar year and receive transferable credits. The students will also be enrolled in a physical education course for lifetime fitness. Our Jr./Sr. High School will continue to offer the highly successful GED course of study which will be enhanced by the CA/RP program. Also, the Work-Related Education program (WRE) will continue to be an important part of the school’s educational curriculum.

Another change is a new year-round school calendar. This new calendar allows for a seamless curriculum for students who enroll or withdraw throughout the calendar year. All students will attend school Monday through Thursday, with some students being required to attend classes on Fridays. Those students attending Friday School will have the opportunity to work on their academic coursework while their classmates participate in recreational activities through the residential program.

White’s Jr./Sr. High School has provided excellent educational programs in the past and it is our goal to improve our level of service with this new program. Our educational outcomes reflect our commitment to our students and their education. Students enrolled in the CA/RP program during this past school year doubled the credits they would have earned in a traditional class setting during the same time period. We look forward to providing CA/RP to all of our students beginning August 2011.

Dee Gibson, White’s CEO, said of the program “By changing our educational program, we will continue to improve the quality of education for the youth in our care. And, educational success means that they are better prepared for success in life."

White’s is excited about the opportunity this new educational program offers to the students we serve. We look forward to our continued partnership in helping youth make a change for good in their lives, and in a making positive long-term impact in the communities we serve.
