The General Education Development Diploma serves as a viable option for many students that find they are lacking the credits to receive a regular high school graduation diploma within a timeframe that is available to them. The basic skills remediation class works to help those students identify the skill areas where there may be a weakness and develop a well-honed action plan that sets step-by-step instruction leading to the successful completion of a GED.
This test is recognized internationally as a standard set of skills equivalent to the same basic skill level of graduating high school seniors. It is a useful tool in the hands of students that may otherwise have struggled to stay in school long past the age of their classmates. It allows students that may otherwise have ended their education as a drop out, to pursue continuing education endeavors in two-year and four-year collegial and trades-based education and training.
Students with Individualized Educational Plans can often take advantage of special testing environments and adaptations depending on the documentations available and the testing support that they have specific to their needs. White’s teachers understand the process of gaining documentation and filing the necessary applications to make this available to students who need this service.
Every student has specific strengths and weaknesses and the basic skills program is designed to capitalize on those strengths and bolster the weaknesses. Each student works on his or her own individual set of lessons at a pace that is geared to achieve the greatest effectiveness within the allotted time. Although not all students are able to complete the requirements to be ready to take the test within the window of their time at White’s, it is highly encouraged as a key component of readiness for real world challenges. More than 375 students have met this requirement and successfully accomplished this educational goal since the first graduate in 1984.
GED is not the answer for everyone, but it provides a choice to secure educational goals that many find are quickly slipping away. For those students that will soon be 18 years of age and are significantly lacking high school credits, White’s can help.
