Admissions Social Service/Govt. Referrals

Department of Education Referrals

Each year local schools find children in their classrooms that have very challenging educational needs.  Children with emotional issues, behavioral disorders, and learning disabilities sometimes cannot be adequately educated in the typical school setting, in spite of the best educational programs available.  These children need more support, more structure and more specialized educational programs than can be offered in their own local school system.  Many schools have turned to White’s to meet the serious educational needs of these students.  Such children are referred to White’s by teachers and school officials through the Department of Education.

Court Referrals

Most of the children and teens we serve are referred to White’s through the juvenile

court system.  These children have entered the court system because of issues of delinquency, abuse or neglect and are involved with juvenile probation departments or the local Division of Family and Children.  Young people placed at White’s through the courts typically remain in our care for 10-14 months.  Some young people are with us for several years through a combination of residential and foster home living.  The presiding juvenile court judge determines when a child is to return home or enter into another living arrangement.
